Lured by an opportunity to upgrade their computer power above and beyond the little micro-slow XT processor already choking on all the heavy intra-family EMail activity, Lori & George traveled out to our wooded outpost in southeast Tennessee.
One day we answered a knock and found some un-tired (but retired) western travelers right there on our doorstep.
We treated them to all the comforts of home.
(Of course, we have to construct our furnishings carefully to avoid mold and mildew out in this humid environment.)
After settling into the "Big House in the Little Woods", they also wanted to see the "Little House in the Big Woods".
George is great with directions. He immediately knew which way to head to get to the Western North Carolina mountains.
OK. We loaded up the AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) and headed for ... The Last Resort.
It was mid-October, but strange weather patterns had delayed our autumn colors. (La Nina, El Nino's little sister, kept the days too warm for the crisp color changes normally found by this time). So the woods still sported plenty of claustrophobic green. The little road into the cabin closed in on our western (wide-open-spaces) visitors. So naturally, I found the tightest road and treated them to a tour of the ridgetop, too.
But we finally found our way down the mountain to the cabin site near the river. And there we find Lori & George enjoying the view from the porch!
In fact, it became obvious that we were all entranced by that view.
After 13 minutes of total silence, Bob jumped up and challenged his older sister: "Race you to the river!"
And by the look on Bob's face, you can tell he beat her there.
But it was also easy to see that both Lori & George enjoyed being at riverside.
Even though we did get to share a meal at Lulu's, and look through the Dogwood Crafters shop in Dillsboro, the visit to the cabin ended all too quickly. In fact the week of learning EMail and Canasta on the new computer sped by at a fast pace, too. Before we were ready, the computer was packed in a carry-on box and they were off to Nashville to visit a little more civil-war history and any other relatives they could uncover. But as they left we could see the little thought-clouds above their heads as each remembered a favorite spot:
Lori (like Mom before her) enjoyed the ambiance of the porch.
And George remembered his history finds in the area.
And we all enjoyed the visit.
Hey, I have other sisters, too! Are you going to let Lori have all the fun??
