Ya Gotta Get There to do the Work.

It takes more than hand tools to build a cabin.

The following photo is a farewell to the little 4WD mule that hauled much of the cabin building supplies up the hill and down again to the river. We left it alongside the roadside in North Carolina during a typical overloaded transit of porch roof rafters, porch support beams and two canoes, on a recent Memorial Day weekend.

In the photo above, that spiffy dude is pointing to a "4WD" emblem. The vehicle was subsequently traded to kinfolk (as is, where is) in exchange for promises of a clutch replacement in that green bus as previously shown in the '96 archives. It was replaced by an updated little red (2WD ... but with big mud tires on the back) pickup truck as appears in these '97 photos.

Meanwhile, the (2WD) family machine was getting kind of long on mileage and short on reliability, so another exchange also occurred. This "AWD" (always in 4WD), high clearance, station wagon vehicle serves well around town and down the cabin roads.

What you are looking at is a white Subaru Outback, (you've surely seen the TV ads), endorsed (really!) by the American Canoe Association.

So we can now get there!

Below shows Murray Johnson, Joyce and Bob enjoying being there after the weekend the Toyota mule kicked it's last.

But we do have an accounting question ...

Do we have to factor the costs of transportation into the costs of cabin construction?

.... to be continued .....
